Moreish Cheese Straws

If you are hosting a party or even a work function, cheese straws are perfect as an appetiser or a snack. They are easy to nibble on while mingling and holding a glass of wine in the other hand. They will also steal the show at the dinner table and can be enjoyed before or with the main meal. You might want to make extra to enjoy when you put up your feet after the guests have left!

  • 400 g ready to use puff pastry
  • 3 cups of grated KEFALOS cheddar or gouda cheese
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds or 1 teaspoon paprika (optional)

  • 400 g ready to use puff pastry
  • 3 cups of grated KEFALOS cheddar or gouda cheese
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds or 1 teaspoon paprika (optional)
Instructions
  1. Heat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius
  2. Open the entire roll of puff pastry onto a clean and even surface sprinkled with the flour to avoid the pastry from sticking
  3. Scatter half the grated cheese onto the pastry and fold in half so that the cheese is in the middle
  4. With a rolling pin roll the pastry to approximately 3mm thickness
  5. Cut into strips of 1cm and twist each strip 3 or 4 times
  6. Lay flat on a backing sheet and scatter the rest of the cheese over the twisted strips
  7. Sprinkle with sesame seeds or paprika (optional)
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown and crispy
  9. Remove from the oven and leave to cool before serving
